A group of language students at Lapua adult education centre travel to Belgium

The most interesting thing during our trip was to meet the Belgian language students. There was a group of French and English language learners at COF , which was the school we access to. We got a permission to participate in their lessons , and so we experienced a concrete way how they study in other countries. Teachers and students were friendly and they were interested in the visitors. The students had prepared in advance  questions they asked for us in opening of the visit. We got the answers for each country 's issues. Finnish respondents were asked , for example, what kind of sports finnish people like and what is the most common sport in Finland.

The Belgian group at COF was more goal-oriented  than the Finnish study group. Students were out of work and their studies aim to help them to find job.   Studies aimed at getting back to working life. We study languages at the Lapua adult education centre mainly for leisure.

Our hosts took us on a river cruise on the first day by a boat the students have built. The time of our visit was in the end of April , and there was spring in Belgium. I think that the weather was very similar to the Finnish summer. The trees were full of leaves and the nature was fresh green. Later, we were able to explore further the workshops of students at COF. There was one group who was building a boat for the customer's order.

At the end of our trip we spent two days in Brussels. We looked at the city and admired the old buildings aroudn the Grand Place square. We saw the statue of Manneken Pis and ate delicious waffles in Dandoy cafe. At the last night we were listening to a jazz orchestra, in a local jazz club. The instrumentalists made the music alive and truly enjoyed playing. You can rearly listen such  kind of  band live .

This kind of visits are ideal for practical work . Getting to know students from other countries will expand and enrich the interaction between different cultures . A particularly positive thing concerning this project was that the " adult " students can also participate in  this kind of activities. Hopefully these activities will continue in the future !
